This page provides information about the SAC elections and is intended to inform potential candidates about the process for applying for a position on the election ballot.
What is SAC?
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is provides policy direction for program needs of the school, especially in planning, finances and advancement, to promote the implementation of policies; and to ensure that all local policies are in accord with the interest and spirit of the policies established for the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Portland
SAC is comprised of 10 members, parents or parishioners, in addition to the Principal and the Pastor. Five of the positions are elected and five positions are appointed by the Pastor or Principal.
What is the commitment?
A School Advisory Council term is a three (3) year commitment, beginning July 1 and ending on June 30th. Meetings are monthly on the second Thursday from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Spanish Room.
Why should I apply?
The school benefits greatly from the support of parents and parishioners providing their gifts of insight and experience on matters that directly and indirectly affect the students. The diversity of talents and experience available in the community provides the principal with guidance on topics that may otherwise not be considered. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents/parishioners to be more involved in the school and assist the Principal in carrying out this important mission. Please prayerfully contemplate this opportunity to serve.
What is the election process?
People interested in serving on SAC should complete Candidate Information application and submit it to the school office by June 1st. This candidate application will be used to provide SAC with information about the candidate’s background and interest in serving on the council. This application will be reviewed and used by the SAC Election Committee, consisting of the Principal, SAC Chair and a SAC member, to create a ballot of candidates to be presented to and voted on by current SAC members during a closed session at the June SAC meeting. This process will fill the two elected positions currently open on the council.
What positions are open?
There are two elected positions and three appointed positions open. The appointed positions may be filled by members of the candidate pool or may be filled from the community at large, at the discretion of the Pastor or Principal. One appointed position is to replace a member who has moved out of the country, this will be a two year commitment to complete that term. The SAC election is to fill the two elected positions based on submissions from the candidate pool. A subsequent internal election will determine the Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary of SAC for the following school year.
