Goals:
6th grade math:

• Develop an understanding of and fluency with multiplication, and division of fractions and decimals.
• Connect ratio, rate, and percent to multiplication and division.
• Write, interpret, and use mathematical expressions and equations.
• Develop an understanding of operations on all integers and rational numbers.

7th grade math:

• Develop an understanding of solving linear equations and inequalities.
• Develop an understanding of and apply proportionality, including similarity.
• Analyze and summarize data sets.
• Analyze two- and three-dimensional spaces and figures by using angle measure, area, surface area, and volume.

8th grade Math:

We will be working towards preparing students to enter high school with the necessary skills hit the ground running in Algebra. By the end of this year, students should be able to: 
 

• Demonstrate an understanding of real numbers and algebraic symbols, including their expressions and operations.
• Use linear equations and functions to represent and solve linear equations, linear inequalities, and systems of linear equations and inequalities.

8th grade Algebra:

• Demonstrate an understanding of real numbers and algebraic symbols, including their expressions and operations.
• Use linear equations and functions to represent and solve linear equations, linear inequalities, and systems of linear equations and inequalities.
• Use quadratic and exponential equations and functions to represent relationships.

Monthly Check-in:
September

6th:  Students are using previous knowledge of area to discover the formulas for areas of parrallelograms, triangles, and other polygons.  Later we hope to use this knowledge to calculate the Surface Area of 3-D figures as well as reason through how to calculate the volume of prisms.

7th: Students are reviewing how to operate with positive and negative numbers.  They are learning what mathematical proofs are and using proofs to better understand the "rules" for operating with negative numbers.

8th: Students are reviewing how to solve a variety of equations by using strategies like drawing tape diagrams, mobile/hanger diagrams, and algebra.  Some activities include scavenger hunts, "speed dating," and finding errors in Mrs. DeFrancia's work.
